In-House Academic Assessment

Applicants entering Kindergarten–Grade 4 must complete an academic assessment administered virtually by HomeSTEM Academy. The assessment helps the school determine the student’s academic readiness, instructional needs, and appropriate grade-level placement.

Assessment activities will be adjusted based on the grade the student is applying to enter. The results are considered alongside the application, school records, teacher recommendation, family interview, and virtual class preview.

Parent or Learning Coach Questionnaire

The parent or guardian must complete a questionnaire describing the student’s educational background, learning needs, strengths, interests, daily learning environment, and experience with virtual or home-based education.

Student Interest Questionnaire

Applicants entering Grades 2–4 will complete an age-appropriate questionnaire about their favorite subjects, interests, learning preferences, and personal goals. Younger students may respond verbally during the assessment or family interview.

Teacher Recommendation

Applicants entering Grades 1–4 must submit a confidential recommendation from their current classroom teacher. If the student has not previously attended school, the family may indicate that the recommendation is not applicable.

School Records

Families should submit the following records when available:

  • Previous and current report cards
  • Progress reports
  • Standardized assessment results
  • Attendance records
  • Academic support or accommodation plans
  • Other records relevant to placement and student support

Families enrolling a student in Kindergarten who has not previously attended school are not required to submit school records.

Family Interview

The student and parent or guardian will meet with a HomeSTEM Academy admission representative. The meeting will focus on the student’s strengths, academic needs, learning environment, and readiness for virtual instruction.

Virtual Class Preview

Applicants will participate in an age-appropriate virtual class preview or student readiness session. This experience introduces the family to HomeSTEM Academy’s live instruction, technology, participation expectations, and parent-as-Learning-Coach model.
